The Inspirations Studio (For 13-19 yr olds)
Latest News:
On Tuesday 24th April a match fund for Peterborough only from Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire will be available. The Inspirations Studio through www.localgiving.com can have up to £2500 of donations matched from this one-off fund.
We would be grateful if people could donate any amount, however small online on this day or after as it will be doubled. It is on a first come first served basis so the earlier in the day you give the more chance of match funding for us.
We cannot guarantee that match funding will happen again but it is great that a donation of £5 becomes £10 in an instant with gift aid where possible. Last month in a national match fund pot (the first of its kind on this website) we raised £1155 from £525 of donations.
Thank you so much for your support,
Stuart Mathers.
Project Description:
The Inspirations Studio is a youth project that provides opportunities and support for young people who use Peterborough City Centre. It started as an idea from young people from the city centre churches and schools in Peterborough.
The young people used an empty shop unit as a trial for three months in 2010 with funding from Network Peterborough and support from Churches Together in Central Peterborough (CTiCP), the Council and Police. This was run by volunteers from the churches and opened on Saturday afternoons attracting over 100 young people. The young people involved surveyed over 150 young people, who supported the idea.
CTiCP have led the way in helping this become a long-term project by underwriting funding for a part-time youth worker. The City council have also funded activities up to September to get it started. We currently use the back of a city centre Church to ran occasional activities but have a shop space lined up to open in a few months time. This project continues to be a great bridge between the Churches and the local young people.
The project aims to engage young people to:
• Promote an all age and intergenerational approach,
• Support them to reinforce a positive image of themselves through creative and innovative ways.
• Be actively involved in developing the project
• Reduce anti-social behaviour in the city centre.
• Support and advocate for the disadvantaged regarding the city centre.
• Encourage and develop young volunteers.
