Fill your Wednesday lunchtime with beautiful harp music in this free lunchtime recital.

Summer Recital: Eleanor Turner, harpist
Eleanor Turner is a passionate ambassador for the harp, performing professionally for over eighteen years since making her London concerto debut aged fifteen with the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, conducted by Daniel Harding and broadcast live on Classic FM.

She has performed solo around Europe, in New Orleans and Sydney, and is looking forward to her first trip to Hong Kong this summer for the 13th World Harp Congress. Eleanor has forged a unique path as a harpist, creating and commissioning new acoustic and electronic music.

She is Head of Harp at Birmingham Conservatoire.

The School of Philosophy, Cambridge have organised a new series of monthly talks and discussions in Central Park.

Whilst not specifically Christian, there have been many great Christian Philosophers so these talks could provide some interesting and challenging opportunities for debate.

Get into the spirit of the Elizabethan age at a four course, candlelit feast in the beautiful setting of the Tudor New Building, commemorating the Cathedral’s connection with Mary, Queen of Scots.

Mary, Queen of Scots Commemoration Supper
Get into the spirit of the Elizabethan age at a supper commemorating the Cathedral’s connection with Mary, Queen of Scots. In the company of the costumed re-enactors and with period music provided by Dante Ferrara, enjoy a four course, candlelit feast in the beautiful setting of the Tudor New Building. The wine and ale will flow, and there will be the opportunity to preview a the Tudor Queens Wardrobe Exhibition, showing replicas of the gowns shown in 16th century portraits, made by Tudor Dreams Historical Costumier.

Mary was buried at Peterborough Cathedral in August 1587, 5 months after her execution at nearby Fotheringhay Castle. The Dean, Richard Fletcher, whose son John was a playwright and associate of Shakespeare, officiated at both her execution and her funeral.

Costumed entertainment from "The Tudors Living History Group" as Mary, Queen of Scotland, Lord Darnley, and Ladies in waiting, who are returning following rave reviews of the Katharine of Aragon Festival.

Crafty Capers - a new group aimed at those who enjoy crafts
Crafty Capers
Lots of churches have a ‘knit and natter’ group. Westgate New Church have decided to start a group but wanted to encourage people to bring any craft they enjoy and spend an afternoon chatting, drinking tea and completing crafty projects. They have called their meeting ‘Crafty Capers’.

Trumpeter Darren Moore joins former Peterborough Cathedral organ scholar, Jeremiah Stephenson, for a Wednesday lunchtime recital.

Summer Recital: Darren Moore, trumpet and Jeremiah Stephenson, organ
Darren Moore plays across the UK and Europe as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral trumpeter. He is a Britten-Pears Young Artist and a Yeoman of the Worshipful Company of Musicians. Darren explores contemporary music in solo settings but also plays period instruments including natural trumpet.

Jeremiah Stephenson is Assistant Director of Music at All Saints Margaret Street, London, and enjoys a busy solo recital career. He was organ scholar at Queens' College Cambridge and subsequently for two years at Peterborough Cathedral. He won prizes in both the Fellowship and Associateship diploma exams of the Royal College of Organists, the major performance prizes at the Royal Academy, and more recently first prize in the Eben International Organ Competition.

The Point is a monthly city wide youth event held at Park Road Baptist Church, Peterborough. The event is aimed at young people of secondary school age, and is run by The CROPS Trust. At this Tuesdays Till Two summer concert St John's are delighted to welcome back three of their most popular performers: pianist Bruce Burbidge, harpist Rowena Bass, and flutist Deirdre Culloty.

They’ll be playing music by Donizetti and Damase, but the highlight of the programme will be the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto, K299.

Mozart – Concerto for Flute and Harp in C major, K299

As usual the St John's café will be open from noon, staffed by volunteers from The Green Backyard, and a selection of hot drinks and home made cakes, scones etc will be on sale with all profits going to support the work of The Green Backyard.


Admission to the event is free, but those attending the talks are asked to make a donation to help cover the costs of the event if possible. The suggested donation is £4.

Summer Recital: GMT Brass Ensemble directed by Andrew Pitt
GMT Brass Ensemble are a young, modern, professional group of players, keen to bring brass chamber music to the public's attention. The group was formed in 2013 and is currently made up of students from three major London music colleges as well as players working in arts administration and music publishing. The group has raised over £1500 for UK charities and is closely involved in music educational programmes.

They have a new programme for their Peterborough recital which includes Strauss and Handel.

Dementia walks
The walks are a joint venture between The Alzheimer’s Society, the Friends of Central Park, Amey and Peterborough City Council, facilitated by Park Ward Labour councillors Richard Ferris and John Shearman.

When: 3rd Thursday of the month from March - August
Time: Meet at Buttercross Cafe at 11am

Cllr Ferris said: “The walks are intended for those living with dementia and their carers, and will be leisurely strolls through the park, finishing back at the café for a well earned cuppa and cake no later than 12.30.”

This guided outdoor tour looks at the historic buildings in the Precincts and visits the Deanery Garden, which is rarely open to the public. Within the garden is the site of an 11th century mott and bailey fortress.

Precincts and Deanery Garden Tour
The Precincts tour starts outside the West Front and tells the history of the Becket Chapel, the Norman Arch leading to Cathedral Square with King’s Lodging above it, and the Knights’ Chamber. The guide will also talk about the 18th century Western Range and the neighbouring row of 19th century town houses built by J.L. Pearson, the architect who restored the Cathedral Tower, Quire, Presbytery, and High Altar.

After that the tour will move to Robert Kirkton’s Arch leading into the Deanery area, and from there up the north side of the Cathedral showing the former site of the Lady Chapel. Then it will enter the Victorian Deanery Garden and take a look at Tout Hill, the site of the 11th century castle. The tour then goes around to the east side of the Cathedral to see the exterior of the New Building, before looking at the remains of Infirmerer’s Hall. The group will visit Almoner’s Hall and return to the West Front via the site of the former monastic Refectory, Dormitory and Chapter House. En route the tour will see Laurel Court and the Cloisters.

Throughout the tour the guide will tell the story of these remarkable buildings, many of which which have stood on this site for centuries.

Precincts and Deanery Garden Tour tickets are £8 for adults and £6 concessions. There is no charge for accompanied children or carers.

Crafty Capers
Lots of churches have a ‘knit and natter’ group. Westgate New Church have decided to start a group but wanted to encourage people to bring any craft they enjoy and spend an afternoon chatting, drinking tea and completing crafty projects. They have called their meeting ‘Crafty Capers’.

When: 2nd & 4th Tuesdays

The expressive and melodic music of Granados and Schubert is the choice of our distinguished pianist for today's lunchtime recital.

Summer Recital: Alasdair Cameron, piano
Alasdair Cameron is acclaimed as a pianist of considerable virtuosity and artistry with subtle tone-colouring and a profound interpretative insight into the composer’s intentions. After studying in Glasgow and with Louis Kentner and Joyce Hatto in London and making his Purcell Room debut he spent the next fourteen years performing and teaching in Rome, Frankfurt and Salzburg. Now back in Scotland, he continues to teach and perform in the UK and abroad, both as a soloist and partner to singers.

In his recital he will be playing the expressive and melodic music of Granados and Schubert.

The recital is free of charge and everyone is welcome. Donations will be invited towards costs.

A unique combination of instruments, in expert hands, for today's lunchtime recital.

Summer Recital: The Apollon Duo, violin and organ
The Apollon Duo was formed in 2015 by violinist Dora Chatzigeorgiou and organist Alexander Binns, Assistant Director of Music at St Edmundsbury Cathedral, to explore the seldom-heard repertoire for this unique combination of instruments. Dora graduated from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in the USA in June 2013 and subsequently studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Alexander is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and pursues a busy career as organist, conductor and accompanist.

The recital is free of charge and everyone is welcome. Donations will be invited towards costs.
