Summer Recital: David Humphreys, organ
David Humphreys is Assistant Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral, where his duties include accompanying and directing the Cathedral Choir. He was previously at St Edmundsbury Cathedral. David is increasingly in demand as a recitalist: he recently played at venues including Westminster and St Paul’s Cathedrals and had released an acclaimed CD in the English Cathedral series. Reviewing the recording, Gramophone magazine praised him for his

‘beautifully deft phrasing and subtle handling of the instrument’.
His recital will include works by Bach, Mendelssohn and Elgar.

Entry
The recital is free of charge and everyone is welcome. Donations will be invited towards costs.

This event is part of the 21st June to 6th September Summer Recital series on Wednesdays at 1.00pm.

Booking at set times will be needed for access to some buildings as numbers will be limited.

The Point is a monthly city wide youth event held at Park Road Baptist Church, Peterborough. The event is aimed at young people of secondary school age, and is run by The CROPS Trust. It takes place from 7:15pm until 9:30pm and includes worship led by The Point band, a challenging message and an opportunity for response and prayer plus our all new Cafe-Lounge at the end of the evening (with hot snacks & drinks, )

Crafty Capers
Lots of churches have a ‘knit and natter’ group. Westgate New Church have decided to start a group but wanted to encourage people to bring any craft they enjoy and spend an afternoon chatting, drinking tea and completing crafty projects. They have called their meeting ‘Crafty Capers’.

When: 2nd & 4th Tuesdays

There is no cost involved and you are encouraged to invite anyone who would appreciate an afternoon meeting new people and sharing a cuppa in an informal setting.

Light Project Peterborough are pleased to offer this interactive day which will be led by street evangelist and artist Chris Duffett and assisted by others from the Peterborough City Centre Chaplaincy team.

The day will start at Wetherspoons - The Drapers Arms Pub where the team have become regulars on a Friday morning engaging with the locals and providing a listening ear.

The activities will then move to Park Road Baptist Church just a short walk away, where Chris will share some new ideas of how to engage with people on the streets which you can then take back and use in your own areas.

You will also hear some of the amazing stories from other members of the team of their adventures on the streets.

After lunch (which will be provided) you will have the opportunity to go out and take part in some street based activities with the team - or to watch if you would prefer!

The day will end back at Park Road Baptist Church with a chance to ask any final questions and a time of reflection.

Churches Together in England (CTE) is delighted to co-sponsor a special ecumenical celebration to mark a hundred years since the birth of Blessed Oscar Romero: The Hope that inspires Christians.

Everyone is invited to this extended evensong at Westminster Abbey that will include a reflection on Oscar Romero’s cherished final words, readings, and the premiere of a Romero Anthem composed by James MacMillan.

The address will be given by the Most Revd & Rt Hon Lord Williams of Oystermouth. Cardinal Vincent Nichols, one of CTE's Presidents, and David Cornick, CTE's General Secretary, will also participate in the service.

Co-sponsors for the service include the Archbishop Romero Trust, Churches Together in England, Christian Aid and the CAFOD. It is expected that HE The Ambassador of El Salvador will attend.

YMCA Sleep Easy 2017
Sleep Easy is a national YMCA fundraising initiative. The aim is simple: spend a night challenging yourself to sleep rough, raising money to help change the lives of vulnerable young people. The money you raise goes directly to support the YMCA's accommodation services in Peterborough. Since they started Sleep Easy events in 2016 they have raised over £15,000 towards accommodation services in Cambridge and Peterborough. Funds have gone towards welcome packs for each resident to help them settle in to their new home.

Mission Academy
Through 10 innovative video-based sessions, this contemporary video series will empower young people (11-18) to go and make disciples, with the primary focus for young people to reach six of their friends.

Small groups are at the heart of Mission Academy Live nurturing a foundation of discipleship, accountability and prayer. These small groups maybe existing groups (be that small groups, Bible study or discipleship groups) or newly formed groups and will meet either weekly or monthly.

As part of the national vision here in the Peterborough region we are believing for 25 Mission Academy Live groups which together will form the Peterborough Hub, which we are delighted to host.

The Playtime Conference this year is about ‘Building Stronger, Together’. It gives you a whole day to speak, connect, share and build with others, which is vital to keep going and growing stronger.

The course is led by the Reverend ian Holdsworth, Vicar of St Mary's Far Cotton, Northampton, who has led several other icon writing courses in the Peterborough Diocese.

The icon that will be focussed on for this course is St Anne with Our Lady and Christ as pictured above.

The course will give you the chance to write this icon using the traditional materials of 22ct gold, earth and metal pigments on a linden wooden panel covered with marble gesso, following the same practies as the ancient Novgorod School of Iconographers.

The artists, Faye Gagel-Panchal, Liz Hunt and Lynne Collins, express their interests in combining elements of observed decorative artefacts and investigations into the architecture and historical landscape of Peterborough Cathedral and its environment.
