Our second concert Tuesdays Till Two concert of 2017 features Swedish guitarist Jonatan Bougt, who will be performing both on a classical guitar, and also a romantic guitar (the precursor of the modern classical guitar). Jonatan’s programme will feature pieces by composers such as Giuliani, Turina, and Mompou.

As ever St John’s will be open from noon, for an hour before the concert begins at 1pm, with volunteers from The Green Backyard running a café offering lots of home made sweet and savoury treats as well as hot and cold drinks.

Admission is free, but we do ask those who can afford it to make a donation to help cover our costs. The suggested donation is £4.

About Jonatan Bougt


Swedish guitarist and theorbist Jonatan Bougt currently studies guitar with Carlos Bonell and Chris Stell and theorbo with Jakob Lindberg at the Royal College of Music, London. A multiple prize winner in the UK and abroad, noteworthy awards include the Jörgen Rörby Prize (2014) of the Swedish Guitar & Lute Society and 1st Prize in the Young Talents Competition of Uppsala International Guitar Festival (2013).

Jonatan has performed in venues such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, Amaryllis Flemming Concert Hall, Britten Theatre and the Southbank Centre in London; Stockholm Concert Hall and Uppsala Konsert & Kongress Concert Hall in Sweden and Centro Cultural Justicia Federal, Rio de Janeiro. In April last year, Jonatan performed the UK première of Chaya Czernowin’s ‘White Wind Waiting’ with the RCM Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Johannes Harneit. Another première was Gustav Alexandrie’s work Eyjaflallajökull with conductor Jan Risberg.

Jonatan also enjoys playing in various chamber groups as well as performing as a soloist. In 2012 his guitar duo Bougt & Bergek was given a scholarship by the Music Conservatoire of Espirito Santo (FAMES) which led to recitals in the XIX Winter Music Festival of Domingos Martins and Centro Cultural Justicia Federal, Rio de Janeiro and performances on Brazilian TV-Gazeta. Other projects include work with singers such as Tobias Bennsten and Peter Ekberg Pelz, and most recently his duo with RCM pianist Irena Radic, with whom he creates new and innovative arrangements for guitar and piano. The guitar and piano duo recently won the second price in the chamber music competition at Twents Guitar Festival, Netherlands.

Prior to coming to London, Jonatan studied with Bo Hansson at Södra Latins Gymnasium’s Professional Musician Programme. His studies there were supported by the Royal Academy of Music in Sweden and the Swedish Guitar & Lute Society.
